On December 15, 2025, around 300 homes in Delhi's Aali village were sealed over alleged encroachment claims. Months later, many families were still living outside their homes, rebuilding lives while fearing another demolition drive. Residents say they possess voter IDs, Aadhaar cards, utility bills and other documents, yet remain uncertain about the legal status of their properties. The issue goes beyond one village. A 2010 Delhi High Court direction sought layout plans for Delhi's villages, but activists and residents argue that planning delays and unclear land records continue to leave families in limbo. The result is not just the loss of homes, but a constant fear that years of savings, memories, and hard work can disappear overnight.
