The first fast-track court hearing in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak case was adjourned on July 27 after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to send a lawyer to represent the prosecution.
The setback occurred just four days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly promised to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks.
With no prosecution lawyer present at the debut session, the Rouse Avenue Court was forced to adjourn the proceedings. To prevent future delays, the court directed the official appointment of a public prosecutor.
The court has rescheduled the next hearing for August 3, expecting a public prosecutor to be appointed and present by that date.
