World Health Organization says E. coli can indicate contamination by human or animal waste

A CAG audit found E. coli in drinking-water samples from eight railway-station water coolers. The World Health Organization says E. coli can indicate contamination by human or animal waste and should not be present in drinking water. Contaminated water can spread diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery and typhoid. The same audit also found basic passenger-amenity gaps at 458 of 512 railway stations. For millions of passengers who rely on station water coolers, the findings raise serious questions about basic public safety.
