Sugar hit ₹55.70/kg. India allows 10L tonnes duty-free imports as production drops to 306L tonnes.

Sugar prices are rising just ahead of the festive season. Government data shows the average retail price increased from ₹48.18 per kg on July 20 to ₹55.70 per kg on August 20. At the same time, sugar production estimates have been revised down from 343 lakh tonnes to 306 lakh tonnes.
