The Indian Express report cites sources who suggested that the decline could partly be linked to a pause in the scheme during the peak kharif sowing season, though the report says there is no data available on such pauses. The government defended the transition, saying VB-GRAMG was implemented “smoothly, seamlessly and in a technology-enabled manner.” The Rural Development Ministry said around 9 crore person-days were generated in its first month, with 63% contributed by women. The report also notes that kharif crop area coverage was 2.86% lower than last year as of July 31, amid an erratic monsoon.
