IIT Kanpur has triggered a debate on representation in higher education

An RTI reply from IIT Kanpur has triggered a debate on representation in higher education. According to the institute's response, IIT Kanpur has 257 professors, of whom 252 belong to the General category and three to the OBC category, while there are no SC or ST professors at the professor rank. The RTI also shows that out of a sanctioned faculty strength of 957, only 581 positions are filled and 376 remain vacant. The figures were highlighted by the All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA), which questioned representation in faculty recruitment at one of India's top engineering institutions.
