A chicken biryani shop on the Kanwar Yatra route in Bareilly was demolished by authorities
A chicken biryani shop on the Kanwar Yatra route in Bareilly was demolished by authorities after a confrontation over the sale of non-vegetarian food. According to reports, Bajrang Dal workers bought one kilogram of chicken biryani from the shop in Baheri to confirm that non-veg food was being sold. They then confronted the shopkeepers and alerted the police. Soon after, authorities brought in a bulldozer and demolished the shop. But officials say the action was not because of the biryani sale. They claim the shop was an illegal structure built over a drain and that an anti-encroachment drive was already underway. Authorities also said notices had been issued to non-vegetarian food sellers along the Kanwar route, asking them to stop sales during Sawan. The incident has now raised questions over whether the demolition was purely an encroachment action, or whether the confrontation over the biryani played a role.
