The story

An audit by the Accountant General (AG) has exposed a major scam in Rajasthan where government funds were continually released for dead or non-existent cows. The report revealed that ₹57.36 crore remains unrecovered from 38 cow shelters (gaushalas) across the state.

According to the audit, several gaushalas claimed to house more cattle than they actually did to receive crores of rupees from the government treasury. One gaushala alone allegedly received an excess of ₹16.36 crore through these fraudulent claims.

Although government authorities have ordered the recovery of the misappropriated funds and issued three separate notices to the offending gaushalas, no money has been returned so far.
